The Young Womens Christian Association (YWCA) of the Solomon Islands is a non-government, membership organization which is affiliated with the World YWCA movement. The YWCA of the Solomon Islands was established in 1975 and become operational in 1978 and is a registered entity under the Solomon Islands Charitable Act (November 1977).

The YWCA has its main office in Honiara and a branch in the Western Province in Munda. The YWCA aims to assist Solomon Islands women to fully utilise their potential and live fulfilled lives. It serves as a training ground to transform women to be leaders of change through its programs, which address issues such as leadership, human rights and sexual and reproductive health rights.

The YWCA also operates a number of services to the public, including the YWCA Hostel in Honiara, which provides safe and affordable accommodation for 37 working women and the YWCA Kindergarten for pre-school aged children between 3 to 6 years old.

The purpose of the YWCA of Solomon Islands is to develop the leadership and collective power of women and girls around Solomon Islands to achieve justice, peace, health, human dignity, freedom and sustainable environment for all people.

To strengthen leadership capacity of young Solomon Islands women through:

 

  • providing training and skills development for girls
  • promoting an inclusive and healthy environment for women to reach their full potential
  • encouraging fellowship amongst young women
  • promoting partnership and networking with stake holders
  • improving YWCA governance and management structure
  • advocating for young women in decision-making

  • Faith - Trusting in God and in one another.
  • Creativity - In the way we use resources and approach challenges.
  • Integrity - Maintaining personal ethical principles.
  • Empowerment - Encouraging women to reach their full potential.
